Re: Jacket points to ponder...

What this all boils down to is, no matter what jacket I get, it’s just me in a leather jacket. I’m not ever going to be Indy no matter how much I spend or how anal I get with details. It’s enough that when I slip on the jacket maybe I stand a little taller. The spirit sticks with me. No one I pass o...

This may be somewhat deflating, but we’ve spent an awful lot of time chasing what turned out to be a badly made unwearable piece of junk. The thing that’s kept me coming back through the years (apart from you fellow inmates) has been the saga. We thought we knew one thing as fact, and then something else is discovered. It’s like this thing is alive. Now I’ve had nothing personal at stake in this game. My research starts and ends here....

Re: Show us your US Wings Antique COW Hero jackets

I'm with Sarge on this one. A new Indy jacket sleeve should come to the first knuckle of your thumb when your arm is at rest. The sleeve will ride up a bit over time as it forms around your elbow. While I suspect that this leather will be more resistant to the ride up effect due to how it was prepar...

Rick,
The side straps come unadjusted from Wings. So yes, you have to run them over the back ring and through the front. The straps will then be pointing to the front.

Re: Inside facings: What's the real story?

This issue traces itself back to the old IndyFan site. As I recall, SA wasn’t a coined term yet and several members were trying to curb what they termed as the “snaky zipper” on their Westeds. A few weeks after a wearing a jacket, the front would tighten up a bit causing the zipper to wave or “snake...

Something to keep in mind about any of the Raiders jackets irregardless of its maker, they didn't survive filming or age well. All of the survivors have been described as pieces of junk. For what it’s worth, here’s my two cents. A jacket, leather or otherwise, has to be practical. Summers here are in the 90’s with humidity hovering around the same for a three month period. Then there’s winter with temps from 30 to –20 F. The Raiders jacket I have, while nice, has a very short window...

Re: Question for cowhide jacket owners re:sleeve length

Most Indy jackets have sleeves that are folded over and glued. If there is enough leather beyond the fold, it's possible to lengthen the sleeve an inch or so. You may be able to do it yourself or, even better, find a professional that works in leather to do it for you.

We know that the smaller pockets in the front make the jacket look longer on Ford. I also believe that a longer yoke down the back also creates the illusion of a longer jacket. You have two features, front and back, that complete the effect.

The CS jacket has the small gap and is accurate to the KotCS movie. The GB does not have the gap and is accurate to Raiders. Hence it's praise.
