I'm also a beginner, and was also having trouble with the circus crack, with almost the exact symptoms you describe. I was also using the whip-cracking made easy video for instruction, (as well as a number of Youtube videos that members have posted). What I found was that I would bring my arm up to ...

Thanks! I don't think something is wrong with the whip itself...more likely just my attachment of the cracker to the fall or the taper of the fall itself. I'd even believe that it was a technique problem, if I hadn't been doing so much better before. I had an awkward phase when I was first trying to...

Thanks for all the replies, folks... Louie, Ive sent you a pm. I forgot to mention in my earlier posts that when attempting the cracks yesterday, I had to work a lot harder to get the whip to crack. In the past, I could almost lazily get the whip to crack, but yesterday it seemed to take more effor ...

Thanks for the additional reply... I'm afraid there might've been a misunderstanding....the whip isn't feeling natural again, yet. I'm hoping that it will with additional practice, but I did stop the days practice yesterday when I became concerned about how often I was hitting the whip (or my hand)....

I've put a picture up at http://www.barnettcollege.com/~drjones/cracker.jpg If you need a better closeup, I'll see if I can get another picture. In general though, could the cracker attatchment (and size of the knot) affect the throw of the whip? The best way I can explain it is that the whip feels ...

Possible Problem - Cracker Attachment?
Hi Guys, Earlier this year, I purchased an 8-foot 12-plait Natural Tan bullwhip from Bernie, at em-brand-whips.com. I also picked up a number of books and videos on whip cracking, and have been trying to master the basic throws. I'm obviously very green, but I can do the overhead crack and the forwa...

I actually have a picture here, taken from my girlfriends myspace page.

You can't really see the side as well as I'd like, but you can why it looks like it's shaped funny from the side.
Sorry for the threadjack!

I may recommend something a little different - A few years ago, I got an Indy hat in soft felt from Optimo Hats, based out of Chicago. I think I paid somewhere in the neighborhood of $400.00 for it, but I've never regretted the purchase. I told Graham what I was looking for, including crown height, ...

Count me among them, I'm afraid. I've been lurking on these boards for several years now, posting rarely, but absorbing as much information as possible. My first inclination was to purchase a Wested...they were affordable, and they came from Peter himself... I ultimately went with a jacket from Todd...

Still got a week to wait on mine, based on Todds original estimate. Please post pics as soon as you get it...it's the next best thing to holding my own in my hand! I also shipped my old Optimo off to Chicago this week to get the full restoration...it'd seen a LOT of abuse in the last few years. If I...

Just Ordered my first Raiders Jacket from Todds Costumes
Hi folks, I've spent much of the last several weeks lurking and soaking up as much jacket knowledge as I could from this forum. I've pored over the various debates, and examined pictures carefully, and finally decided that I wanted my first Raiders Jacket to come from Todds Costumes. I ordered it in...
