Re: Anyone know anyone in LA who can repair my whip?

If it's a David Morgan whip, why not send it to them for repair?

Re: Getting the kinks and bends out of a new nylon whip?

Just because Krist King measures whips differently than you or uses different terms than you do doesn't mean a thing. He has been making whips longer than many of us have been alive and knows more about whipmaking than most of us hope to know. If you don't already know Krist King is the FIRST world ...

Re: Specific leather braid?

Look in "More Bush Leatherwork" by Ron Edwards on page 85. He calls it "Anette's Braid." It consists of 2 laces. One of them shorter and doubled the finished length of the bracelet and the other longer that is woven around the first.

Re: Joe Strain Standard Production Indy Whip (3 years old)

Thanks, Michael! That whip has aged beautifully! The color is just identical to the Morgan that Lee Kepler first sent me in the late 80's to look at. I thought that Morgan was the most beautiful whip I'd ever seen. Anyway, I'm happy you are enjoying it. You have some great gear there and pull off th...

Hitching on a new fall

Hi all, For those of you who haven't seen it, I uploaded a video last week demonstrating how to hitch on a new fall. I think it can be much better and am going to redo the video and swap it out with something a bit more simple and straightforward, but for now here it is. http://www.northernwhipco.co...

Thanks! These were 6 foot with 12 inch spring steel handles.
Glad you like the pair. Short whips are a lot of fun!

http://www.northernwhipco.com/images/Matched%20Pair%20of%20White%20Bullwhips.jpg These are the whips that were used. After filming, one of the whips was given to Rourke as a gift and I was asked to make another to complete the pair once again. I think I made these back in April. White is very hard ...

Re: Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular Whip Pictures

They told me that they go through about 8 whips a year because of the rough usage and fullers earth......Morgan whips at that.
This whip was made by me though and it was only about two months old when this picture was taken.

Re: Western Stage Props Bullwhip

That is one of mine. It was a special request as evidenced by the 4 bight heel knot.
I tied a 6 bight heel knot on all of the whips sent to WSP unless requested otherwise.

Re: Is 3 feet too long....

30 inches for a fall is typical. I cut mine between 34" and 36" and let the user "tune" their whip to the optimum length for them. The fall should continue the taper of the whip out to the cracker +/-. It is not really critical as a good fall will not make a bad whip crack well. ...

Do a long whipping over it with waxed nylon string. That would be better than any glue or cement. Start about 1/2 inch before and wrap tightly until about 1/2 inch after. It will hold indefinitely but the whipped section will be stiff. If you have any books on whips such as Whips and Whipmaking, mos...

Correct. These whips are exclusive to Western Stage Props.

Also, although Morgan supplied most of the whips for the Mask of Zorro, I made all of the whips for the Legend of Zorro.

I made a whole range of lengths for the movie......a total of 12 whips including the 16 and 25 foot stunt whips. I think there are four 6's, two 8's and two 12's in this picture. I had to make a 10 foot later and an additional 12 when one was run over by a wagon breaking the handle. http://www.north...

Paul,
The length is about 30 inches plus fall. I didn't have a splitter so everything is split by hand. I'm not sure of how long it took to make because I worked on it off and on for a while.

Good job! There is nothing easy about miniatures. Here is one that is a few years old. This one is 12 plait. The 8 plait point is just under 1/8" in diameter. Image

I no longer supply Indy whips to Western Stage Props. Their prices are not my prices. I'll have an Indy page up within a couple of weeks but the prices are the same as the LoneStar bullwhips at this time.

I can probably answer many questions about my brother in a few words. There is not as much to this as you might think. CJ has made two whips and it was some time ago. I know both whips very well because we both used them in shows we did for SASS. CJ is an engineer and sold probably five or six whips...

The simplest way to explain it is the "S" crack is nothing more than a circus crack in reverse. While learning the circus crack you start with the whip laying out behind you. With the "S" crack, you start with the whip laying out in front. It the same swing and cut technique as t...
