Re: The Federation IV Display Page
So much comes down physiology. Mine’s a size 59 and after the bashing the crown’s roughly 5 in tall. If I lower the crown any more it starts to look like those zoot suit inspired low crowned-wide brimmed 1940s fedoras…at least on me. Being 5’2” I’ve discovered I really need to keep that crown high a...

I have to smile when you mentioned the concurrent Swing Dance craze because I was right there in the thick of it, as a saxophonist mostly, and I would’ve given a lot for a good ‘30s style fedora. But what’s even more fun from an Indiana Jones perspective is my life long obsession with jazz started b...

But for hiking I always go with my Andrea Tognarelli hat. It seems more rugged, I love that the felt is softer AND it stays on my head really well, so the wind doesn't blow it away. It's great for bike riding, too! :D Cheers, Bear How durable do you find your Tognarelli? I’ve been considering him f...

Re: What SA hat do you adventure in?
In general my Akubra Fed 4 is my go to adventuring and travel hat and have found it works great. I usually tuck it under the seat in front on top of my carry-on (I’m 5 ft 2, never thought much about foot space). Or it sits on the back seat during road trips. As many have said one great thing about A...

Re: Is Herbert Johnson the holy grail of indy fedoras now?
First and foremost, in terms of quality alone, HJs made since Michelle Poyer-Sleeman took over as Master Hatter are incredibly well made. The materials are top of the line, and the craftsmanship is top notch. Virtually flawless, to be honest. And the durability is well above average. For context, I...

Re: Herbert Johnson Temple of Doom
Too wide a ribbon for an “Indy”? Perhaps ever so slightly. It looks nice in and of itself though. Gives it good vintage flair. Actually, looking at that picture it gives me “close enough” Young Indy Chronicles vibe, especially if you can push the back of the crown up a little.

Re: What Is It About the Streets of Cairo Look?
The SOC hat to me looks really awesome….in context. For a hat to wear everyday though I think it mostly will look like you’re walking around with a hat in desperate need of some TLC. So, great for cosplay or display (or on a hiking tail perhaps, to be fair) but for a general purpose every day hat I ...

In the world of marketing it wouldn’t surprise me at all if the Stetson Temple was based on a hat Stetson made for the movie but wasn’t strictly identical. Same color and overall dimensions but simplified for mass production, ie: finding a pre-shaped block that more or less conformed to the shape th...

Re: Herbert Johnson Temple of Doom
The Stetson Temple isn’t a bad looking hat in and of itself, but to call it a true Indy-style hat is a little…optimistic. I see a more or less 50’s style with a dimensional brim. I’d love it to death if a relative gave me one for Christmas but it would never replace my Fed 4 as my intentionally Indy...

Re: Herbert Johnson Temple of Doom
Honestly it only looks bad to me because the brim is proportionally way to wide for the crown. Smaller brim and the crown would look great, very Bogart. Though for a “safari” style fedora, yeah I’d prefer big crown, big brim.

Re: Is Herbert Johnson the holy grail of indy fedoras now?
True, I couldn’t even bring myself to do that to my Fed 4 Deluxe let alone an expensive piece like the Poet, probably why the one worn in the “Donovan Apt” scene in Last Crusade is my favorite, worn in but looked after. As far as Raiders goes I always liked the non-turned one worn on location in Haw...

Re: Is Herbert Johnson the holy grail of indy fedoras now?
Well said! Of course having one’s hat blocked on the same block would be cool, but if the block they have now gives the same shape then, well, that’s cool too in my book. It’s special to know Herbert Johnson took the time to research and back-engineer the Poets, a company like that didn’t have too a...

Re: Is Herbert Johnson the holy grail of indy fedoras now?
Love your reasoning! All reasons I would love to add a HJ to my wardrobe someday. Something about the heritage of it, not just to Indy but (in reference to the Poet) to the history of a hat style they’ve been making for over a century now. Sadly out of reach for me but hopefully someday!
