S&J 36: Ribbed or TOD lambskin
I’m in the last stage of my S&J ordering process to get a 36 Main Hero in ribbed lambskin. But then they sent me a packet of leather samples and the ToD leather has what is, to my eye, the most screen accurate color and texture I’ve ever seen. I know the ribbed striations are accurate to certain...

Re: Sable vs Deep
The basic Sable is the colour as it appears on screen, with some sun-bleaching and lighting etc to lighten the colour just a touch. The "Deep Sable" is the colour originally given to the production team before filming, which I would assume, will eventually make it's way to the slightly li...

Sable vs Deep
I searched and couldn’t find this but I’m sure it’s covered here. But I’m sure it’s covered so pardon the ask… but what’s the difference between HJ Sable vs Deep? Is Sable lighter? The more I obsess over this that more I’m convinced the hat should be distinctly lighter than the jacket… I feel like t...

Re: Does anyone know when Advintage will start taking orders again?
Well, they are cheaper and the guys here seem to like them. I haven't received mine yet, but I hope they'll be ok. I’d love to hear how you like ‘em once they arrive! I'll definitely post about them! Try also Howard Weinstein's advice, maybe email AdVintage, see what they say. :-k I sure did do tha...

Does anyone know when Advintage will start taking orders again?
The notice on the site from early this year says they’d resume sales in the Summertime.
I couldn’t find a contact link in their shop.
Thanks!

Re: Streets of Cairo Shirt
You put a little potassium permanganate (and I mean a LITTLE) in water. It'll make a deep purple solution. You spray this on to the fabric and it'll look like you ruined it with purple staining... but within a few seconds it'll start turning a nice brown color. Start out with a VERY weak solution. ...

Re: Wested Legacy Hero (Lambskin) vs Custom Hero (shrunken lambskin)
I just think they responded to people like us who preferred the color that they saw on screen. This first photo shows the Hawaii jacket in a different light https://www.23hq.com/23666/109760147_baccc4162cc187987e89859d4a3ddd1b_standard.jpg This is one of the jackets 35 years or so after filming htt...

Re: Wested Legacy Hero (Lambskin) vs Custom Hero (shrunken lambskin)
Understand distressing may mean jumping in a river and wearing it in Saharan sun and 100 degree plus heat. The legacy leather is close… certainly not a match, but with today’s tanning processes, not bad. I found it slightly weightier, but only slightly. Don’t feel bad about getting the fit right. T...

Wested Legacy Hero (Lambskin) vs Custom Hero (shrunken lambskin)
I’m going a bit nuts here folks. I just rec’d my second Custom Hero trying to correct the sizing errors I made on my first Custom Hero. The fit still isn’t right so I’m going back in for a THIRD TIME (gotta love that no-return-on-Custom policy). What’s driving me nuts is whether or not to go Legacy ...

Friend will be distressing and wearing it.

How bad is the X-box stitching?
How screen-incorrect is the x-box stitching? How hard will a person be bumming if they inadvertently ordered it on their Wested Hero Custom? Asking for a friend.

Re: Leather Conditioner? WHAT Leather Conditioner??
For anybody keeping score, my Wested Hero in shrunken Lamb had lost texture and I was worried about ever getting the right screen color. It had also taken on a gasoline-puddle sheen following my treatment of Lexol cleaner and conditioner. Well, last night while watching The Devil's Candy I noticed t...

Re: Leather Conditioner? WHAT Leather Conditioner??
Thank you all for your replies and help here The jacket was in an excellent place on Halloween--I rinsed it, wore it dry and crinkled the sleeves, rubbed it with alcohol, sandpapered it and patted it down with Fuller's Earth. It really looked great. I had tried to change the color with acetone--to g...

Re: Leather Conditioner? WHAT Leather Conditioner??
Good deal. Thank you! This helps a lot.
Maybe I'll grab some USWings. I've had good luck with the Lexol conditioner so far loosening up and weathering in the gas mask bag strap for example. But nervous to use on jacket. Sounds like it's safe but not as good as Pecars or US.

Re: Distressing hats?
Thanks for all the information, folks. I got a Dorfman in the mail this week--it was all could get shipped in time for Halloween--and I can see that it's a somewhat limiting choice. I've got a Denton on the way, but it's not estimated to arrive until November. I love wearing this Dorfman, though, so...

Is Pecar's cream the same as Lexol? Like in terms of function? Or does one need both?
I'm looking into these to aid the distressing/breaking in/authentication of the various leather items and accessories (jacket, belt, whip, whip holder, holster).
Thanks!

I'll also chip in that there's an entire sub-forum here entitled Gear Care & Distressing, if you're interested in more details. :TOH: Sure, though artificial distressing is sort of a bespoke, personal to the wearer kind of thing in most cases for those who want it. Some makers like S&J and ...

Distressing hats?
Pardon me, I'm super new to this, although I've wanted an accurate hat since I was 8 years old in 1981... but is there a master thread--or an informative one--on distressing a hat? I've been trying to find stuff on it and my searching skills have failed me! Is hat distression not a thing?
