Yep, I've had one for awhile now. Great shirt, but the fabric bugs me. That poly/cotton blend is just too rigid. Needs to be 100% cotton, then I'll be happy. :)

Well, I finished my first whip!

Whew! It took me awhile, but I've just completed my first whip. Since this first one was only a test to see if I could actually do it, I used cowhide. My next one will be made from 100% Aussie 'roo. My hat's off to the blokes who make plaited goods on a regular basis, because they take a LOT of time...

Thanks mucho. Spray would be nice, but I'd make a big mess with it I'm afraid. I went with the amber stuff in a can and got some denatured alcohol to thin it. Just need to attach the handle strap and tie the Turk's heads, then I'll be a shellac-ing maniac. :)

I must admit, this is the first time I have heard of anyone using a shellac on their whips. I sorta like it. It gives the whip a durable looking finish. Perhaps I should clarify...I used the hot water STEAM from the iron, not the iron itself. However, I did tap the iron once on one wavy spot on the brim to flatten it with no problems. The felt held up like a champ.

Sorry about the nickel zipper request, Peter, I had no idea they were so hard to come by. I just saw it listed as an option on your web site, so I didn't give it a second thought. It's really not that big a deal to me, the brass is fine if that's what you recommend. :)
