Hmm... So obviously, a bullwhip is a no match for a bear... but I wonder how effective a whip would be against a wolf, coyote or a cougar or something...? A wolf or coyote, maybe. My neighbor had two mean pitbulls, and they never came near me or my kids again after I sliced one of their ears badly ...

I think it's a darn good match for the jacket in most of Raiders. The jacket in the opening sequence was a bit longer, true. The sleeves were longer, as well. But in most of the film the jackets all seem a bit shorter than that first one we see. Curious thing...... for years it seems the general ide...

I ordered a 10-foot 8-plait from Gus last week! I totally love the look of that 8-footer! Now I'm even more excited about my new whip! That's exactly how an Indy whip should look, IMO: very rugged, yet elegant and well made. Don't worry, I'll post lots of pics and a review when it arrives in a few w...

It depends. The postal service would have to prove they delivered it if you file a claim. If it was signed for upon delivery, Wested is actually liable. Since it was shipped from outside their country, I would think they had to sign for it. Either way, it's great news that you insured it. The postal...

alternative to a cable core?
I know some guys have had our various whip makers do cable-cored "stunt" whips for more extreme use. I recall some saying the cable made them stiff and not very functional for cracking. SO........ I was hunting around for some braided cord for an unrelated project and stumbled upon the spe...

I think people sometimes underestimate the strength of leather, even thin leather. It may feel delicate when applied to something as large as a jacket, but leather is tough. How thick do you think the strands of a bullwhip are, and look what those can take! I thinner Indy jacket is exactly what I wa...

I agree with you there. It's the main problem I've had with EVERY Indy hat on the market. The Raiders crown/brim do not meet at a hard angle, as with any new hat you're going to find. There's a smooth, rounded transition going on there. Believe it or not, the closest hat in that one respect (and tha...

I'd tend to agree with Steve and Marc. I get that a lot on my fedora; the exposed break where the ribbon creeps up. After pulling the ribbon off years ago to reconfigure it, I never bothered to tack it back down, except at the bow. 3K, most of what you're pointing out is an illusion caused by dust a...

I would have to say both make sense. HARRISON FORD would have the longer hem to keep them from hanging up in the eyelets; a practical real-world trick that might certainly prevent a lot of out takes  INDIANA JONES might very well do something like that for better ankle coverage. I'm not saying ...

I'm not sure I follow what you're saying, Canyon :? Probably my fault, I can be as dense as PB felt  Yes, Indy's hat is sometimes placed crooked on his head, with the pinch not quite lined up with his nose. This would make the turn more dramatic, but I don't think it would cause it. The whole ...

I wonder why it works on some, not on others? ALL of the Indy jackets I've had, the pleats fail and just lay there eventually. Is it possible this only happens to longer jackets? I guess the shorter the jacket, the less distance there is between the strap and the yoke. That might be something. Over ...

Gibson & Barnes/Flightsuits "Raiders" jacket:
I recently received a Gibson and Barnes (G&B) "raiders" replica jacket from another member and wanted to post some thoughts on it, as it's not often discussed anymore. I'll have pics posted soon. I got this one from IndyBlues last week in a trade for my Wested 'Raiders' goat. I've love...

I don't know that anyone has ever requested it, but I doubt that Wested would do it. It's the ONE part of the jacket that touches EVERY other part. To move it would mean redesigning the entire pattern, as it would shift every component. I really wish they would just do and make it permanent. NO indy...

Another option, as someone else said above, is a slightly longer style. It was common in the old days, as well. You'd keep the sides prertty tight, but leave the top surprising long and about half way down the back of the head. (surprisingly by what most percieve as the standard of the day). The ide...

I can see your point, but that victory would have required far more mods to become what we see in Raiders. And, yes, a smaller revolver does get lost in the Webley. I know mine did but the slack was not that severe. I was just pointing out that, if an existing holster had been modified to create the...

The more I look at these, the more I'm leaning toward nylon. It's amazing how much they can look like leather! And I want something that can take a lot of abuse, too.
