So even though I got on the waiting list back in July, it looks like I have to possibly wait until next July to maybe get an HJ DoD fedora. That's a repro of a Mk VI gas mask bag - hence the rear pockets, two small D rings on the front sides and the '1940 pattern' stamp. You'd think an army surplus specialist like Silverman's would have spotted that? The Mk VI rear pockets are actually really good for securely storing valuables so okay...

They lost me when they added that raised ridge between the stitching. One thing they did was convert from Goodyear welt to stichdown construction. That was interesting. The thread coming through the outsole could indicate Goodyear welt.... but maybe it's decorative. Not sure why they'd go through the trouble for that detail. :-k

I think he's wearing Dad's watch because he was teaching when all the stuff started happening and he never went back to his apartment, Sallah did. I'm thinking he'd have a different watch for the field.
