Re: Custom ”Bapty” front sight for an m1917... feedback?

Sadly the one of what I had left went to someone a few weeks ago. I’m not opposed to another run, but the machine shop required a minimum of 25, and it may be hard finding that many more people who are willing/interested in hacking up their WWI firearms.

Hand Ejector 2 “Bapty” vs. other S&W’s

I recently took some photos making a comparison between the Raiders S&W Hand Ejector II "Bapty", and a couple of other popular 'close enough' revolvers, and thought I’d share them here :) A few things that may not be immediately apparent to those unfamiliar with these firearms: An uncu...

Re: BAPTY BEING SOLD?

These are some of the best photos of the custom front sight that've been available to date. I agonized over less clear photos to get the details right, such as the number of serrations, and contour of the tip... and am glad to see them confirmed in these super detailed photos!

Re: Share your Indy Guns!

The S&W and Colts that went overseas to Britain/Europe/Allies ( lend lease) whether in .45LC or .455 did see machining ( cutting the cylinder down) so these revolvers could fire .45ACP ( with half moon clips three to side/two clips to a full cylinder) which was in abundance for manufacturing in...

Re: Share your Indy Guns!

Man, those are some NICE looking guns you have there! Thanks for the pics. Have you / do you shoot any of them? Curious to know which one wins in the accuracy department! I've shot each of them, the US Army with its 1950 barrel shoots the best of all of them. I originally planned to use it as my In...

Share your Indy Guns!

I no longer have the Brazilian, but here they are again, from both sides. I threw in .38 model 10, as it’s a popular “close enough” revolver. It certainly looks the part, however, the difference in size between the N frame m1917’s and the K frame model 10 is MUCH more apparent in person than it is i...

Re: Share your Indy Guns!

Any chance you could do a photo shoot for all 3, really highlight the differences? Here’s all 4 before I began any modifications to them. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190212/1ebf6cca109d00b99d9dec2036354821.jpg From top to bottom: M1917 commercial: A few army markings indicate the receiver wa...

My first kangaroo whip!

Today this ‘roo whip made by Blake Bruning of Trinity Whip Co arrived! 10ft Raiders in Whiskey. Got to check off something that’s been on my bucket list since I was a child. I’ve made a handful of nylon whips, but this is the first kangaroo I’ve owned! Unfortunately it’s been raining all day and I’v...

Re: Share your Indy Guns!

First was a 1917 commercial that was too nice to ruin its collectible nature. Second was a US army m1917 with a barrel swapped in from a 1950, but it shot too well. Third was a Brazilian, but the action was too worn. Fourth one was the perfect Hand Ejector II, the exact model used in Raiders. But it...

Love it! I’m looking forward to taking some “group photos” but I’m waiting for a ‘roo whip coming in a few weeks :D

That map is cool! Where did it come from?

Re: Custom ”Bapty” front sight for an m1917... feedback?

Phew! I finally took the plunge and cut the Hand Ejector 2 down to size! This was was done by bandsawing the barrel a fraction of an inch long, and using a belt grinder to take it down to size and radius the outer edge. A round-head bolt, chucked in a hand drill, along with some lapping compound, wa...

Re: Custom ”Bapty” front sight for an m1917... feedback?

The difficulty in finding that "Goldilocks" piece for me was finding one as precisely close to the screen used original as possible, yet it still has to be buggered as far as any collector would be concerned. :TOH: Yes, exactly. Me too. That’s why I’m rather excited about this HE II, the ...

Custom ”Bapty” front sight for an m1917... feedback?

Hopefully I didn’t have to outbid any of you guys to snag this one! I’ve been like Goldilocks trying to find the right revolver. My first was too nice, another too poor, one shot too well... finally this one should be the ticket! A .455 converted to 45acp :) I too had difficulty finding a smith to t...

Re: Custom ”Bapty” front sight for an m1917... feedback?

FWIW, my 4" model 10 (.38 K frame) doesn't fit badly in a standard Indy holster, really. I had a .38 K frame replica as my Indy gun for years and carried it in an Indy holster with no problem at all. Especially if the holster is new, you can mold it to the K frame just fine. In fact, for a ver...

Thats an awesome "mini indy" gun there! I love how it turned out with the ramped sight. Did you solder, or use adhesive?

Screen used Raiders fedora up for auction in UK

No difference from other vintage hats. That said, imo, there is nothing out there that can compare today. We have lots of great hats that match the color and look, but the rabbit felt today is not what it used to be. So true. For that “claylike” softness, your only choice is to go vintage, sadly. H...

Re: Indy's flash light. New Gear.

I recently acquired a pair of vintage flashlights, one of which is too small to be Indy’s light (but otherwise relatively looks the part), but the other looks like a very close match to the screenshots. It lacks the faceted bezel that the reproduction has, but I honestly have a hard time telling if ...

There’s not, no. The barrel I’ve shown is just a simple 3D mock-up of the front barrel geometry, to model the rest of the gun would be a much more complicated endeavor :)

What are you trying to determine, exactly?

Custom ”Bapty” front sight for an m1917... feedback?

I’m soon planning to cut the barrel of my m1917, and with the help of my knifemaker/machinist friend, mill a new “Bapty” style front sight. I have 3d modeled the sight, and plan to use his CNC to mill the sight itself. If there is interest, I may try to talk him into doing a short run of them as wel...

More food for thought, in later films, he’s switched to the Webley, also chambered in .455. Could that indicate a propensity towards that caliber over 45acp?

Recently acquired commercial 1917. I was actually expecting one it rougher shape, but it turns out the listing’s photos really didn’t do its condition justice. So I can’t bring myself to cut the barrel as I’d been meaning to do... and the search continues for a more appropriate donor [emoji3] [img]h...
