I would say the HK is a more luxurious felt but the Fed is very soft, more like my Akubra Lawson.

Yes the Fed is a bit lighter but it also had a lot of fullers earth, most of which I brushed off. The when I compare the HJ with my Steve Delk CS the HJ is lighter sable.

I tend to like the slightly higher crown. I have a Barons Cliffhanger Redux for sale on EBay as the crown is shorter than my Barons original Cliffhanger. Both are 100% Beaver.

I recently purchased an Akubra Federation hat on EBay. Guess it was an original not a deluxe or IV. Crown is almost 5 inches and brim is almost 3 inches. After going back and forth with the fine folks at Herbert Johnson, we were finally able to resolve the sizing issues. I still don't know if this hat is too big for my body type.
