I want a screen accurate LC jacket and I have my eye on a dark brown novapella from Wested. Any and all suggestions would help. If you have this particular color jacket I'd love to see your pics!

I have a Wested Novapelle in a Raiders pattern that I got from a member here. It is big on me, which is perfect because it is of more use to me then the typical fit of an Indy jacket. I'll dig around for pics on my new phone. It is a heavy jacket but not uncomfortably so. The color in certain light is stunning and I catch myself just staring at it alot.

The dark novapelle is a great leather, I think copper novapelle is even better for an LC.
This is my dark NP new with pecards and then after a few months and with distressing

.

That doesn't come across as creepy at all.

If it were made of horsehide, using that scenario, THAT would be creepy.
KT, THAT is a beautiful jacket!

I contacted Rebecca at Wested leather about the dark brown novapella and she tells me that it's actually more of a gray tone than dark brown. So for screen accuracy I guess Copper novapella is what I'm looking for correct? Here are some photos she sent of the dk brown np. Oh wait, how do I include a photo???

Copper NP makes a very nice jacket. The dua-tone leather with its lightly suaded bronze/copper type undertones make for an exceptional repro. I would liken the color to more of a CS look alike though. To my eye, it is more caramel shaded for that kind of jacket. At the moment, Diego makes a fine LC likeness complete with pattern and leather. The closest Wested I have seen, leather wise, is pre-d. The only other thing I know that might touch it is Wested's SL if it I more of a choc. brown.

Texan Scott thanks for your reply. I'm fairly new to this stuff so could you be a bit more specific as to what "pred" & "SL" refers to. The reason I wanted to know about dark novapelle is because wested has a clearance jacket in that particular skin in my price range. I've seen S&Js work & I think it's awesome but I can't afford $330 at the moment.
Thanks

Sure. Shrunken Lamb is SL shorthand and pre-distressed hide is pre-d, which is also cow.
The LC jacket appears to be lamb, but plenty have opted for cowhide. Just recently, I saw an OTR "off the rack" in other words, non-custom LC in lamb and it was a fine jacket. It really depends on how accurate you want it to be. Wested makes the LC/CS-- OTR jacket as a blend of the two. Maybe you will get double stitched shoulder seams, the pockets & flaps may not be 'perfect' and the bottom hem will be stitched, but these specs would be minor to some, while to some it would be a big deal. For the money, it's not a bad option at all. If these details are important to you, then custom would be the best option, but that will have you committed in the $300 range plus about $45 shipping, plus the DHL fee of about $23.

Be wary though; my DHL fee from importing my Wested last week was $64.

You never know if it'll be free or cost a bundle.

Thanks for the heads up on the extra shipping fees. I'm going to hold out for now on a new jacket and just save up for a s&j. I have a US Wings Raiders type jacket that I've been trying to make into more of a LC look. I've distressed it similar to the Smithsonian screen used coat. I've also added snaps to the storm flap to make it a bit more SA. But being obsessive compulsive in manner, I've been tormented by the small collar and pockets that are consistent with the Raiders jacket. Does anyone else have this same sort of issue ever? Obsessing over minor details that only people like those of us on this site can recognize?

It that is your game, then I's say you are doing the right thing by saving to get just what you want. The little details come together, making it a different jacket, different pattern too. Sleeve and yoke seams line up, old style strap anchors near the bottom of the pocket, D-rings, etc.
Holy COW!!!

Before anyone pulls the trigger on a dark brown novapelle jacket, check THIS out! Today I received my brand new Wested
Memphis Belle A-2 in dark brown novapelle, and it is
NOTHING like my novapelle Indy. The current batch is a thick, heavy, pebble-grained suede (the skin changes from dark to light at the slightest touch), whereas the vintage hide is a lightweight, smooth, fine-grained cowhide. This leather is
worlds apart from Wested's original novapelle. In fact, I'm willing to bet it's not even from the same supplier! Don't get me wrong, it's nice stuff, but I'm glad I got my original jacket way back when, because 2015 novapelle is nowhere
near the adventure-worn Indy aesthetic that we're so familiar with.

Sweet lookin' skin. Thanks for the tip but I've already ordered an S&J LC jacket.

It's been like that for a while. I've owned 2 DB novapelle'S in the past 3 years and both were like the one on the left.

This is mine from about 12 months ago. Same texture as the one on the right:

Interesting. My novapelle Indy jacket is circa 2008. The texture is closer to the modern pre-distressed cowhide than 'novapelle', which tells me that Wested must be really inconsistent with their hides nowadays. And to think that I nearly ordered a novapelle LC jacket last year. Glad I dodged that bullet, because I wouldn't have been happy with the result.

Back in 2008, I had a couple of novapelle jackets, and the hides used in them looked like the one on the left of the photo...

You need to start another thread regarding A2 jackets, whip. This discussion is getting a bit off the rails and those posts have been removed.
Let's get back to the dark brown novapella jacket.......
Thanks!
