My first fedora

Hello all,
I am new the COW but have been browsing the forums for some time. I relied on COW members to help research my choices for my first fedora and what kind of leather jacket I would purchase.
After all was said and done I settled on a Magnoli HJ in the LC style, and a Wested predistressed LC as well. What can I say, I dig the LC.
Once I have some pics I will post them. For right now it has been a few weeks since ordering both. I am hoping to hear something soon.
Thanks for all of your info in past postings. Really helped me make the right decisions.

Cheers,
Owj88

Welcome, owj88! I'm sure you'll love your new gear and it looks like you spent the time to do some research before coming to your decision. As everyone here will tell you, make sure to post pics of you in your gear when it arrives. On a side note, please reduce the size of your avitar to 100x100pixels as outlined in the Rules Section. It's a little big at the moment.

Sorry binkmeisterRick about the avatar, I was worried about that. Thanks to all the rest of you for welcoming me. Everyone here is great about bringing one into the fold.
I hope to be able to post some gear pics soon.

No worries, OWJ88. It's just that really hige images make folks have to scroll back and forth to read the pages, so we try to keep things in order, you know? Just resize it and put it back up, that's all. And yes, you are very welome at COW!

Hello everybody! This is my first official post in COW, after several months of digesting a ton of the information contained pertaining to IndyGear. And, after all that reading, I am proud to say I'll be ordering my own new AB in September :D The realization of a 15-year dream!

Regards, Andy

I did the same thing, airforceindy. I must have watched the forum for over a year before I actually joined. Like you, I decided not to waste time, and went straight for the gold. While I wait for my AB, I'm sitting pretty with a half dozen non-Indy fedoras.

Welcome to both of you!

Thanks, Mark. I currently only have one decent hat (other than my faithful Red Sox ball-cap), and that is a Stetson Australian that my mother-in-law picked up for me for father's day in South Dakota. It's a great hat, but just a little to big-around for daily wear IMHO.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but was it you that said you were a USAF pilot?

Pilot candidate, actually. I haven't gone to UPT yet. Right now, I'm in my 3rd week of ASBC.

What is it you do?

SSGT, Civil Engineering, High Voltage Electric Shop. Stationed at Ellsworth 5 years, but right now I'm at Soto Cano in Honduras 'til October.

I was up at Ellsworth 3 years ago for Field Training. Small Air Force, huh?

Certainly is :D I'm sure I was one of those crazy guys who waved while you were pulling road guard! Welcome to the Air Force, my friend, and it's good to see that I'm not the only military-type with an afinity for fine headwear 8)

Welcome aboard AirforceIndy!!!

I served 6 years and got a lot of traveling in under my belt ...good times.

How's CE treating you?

Glad to have you onboard!!!!!

and to MARK BRODY... what aircraft are you trying to land?

CE's treated me great over the past 6 years; I just re-upped in May for another 5. What's your background, EJ?

Gentlemen:

As a former AF JAG, no security breaches, please. Once upon a time, froze myself silly at Loring AFB, until a stint at the Academy.

Sincerely,

Man, this is a VERY small world; I lived at Loring for 6 years growing up! My old man worked at the Snow Barn....

I got suckered into EOD with my first AFSC. Halfway through the 9 month tech school I decided I didn't want to cut the blue wire on accident  so I re-upped my common sense re-checked my mortality then requested to be reclassed (yes, you can "request" it in that AFSC).

They then placed me where they needed me  in Logistics.

It wasn't all that bad though the job was easy and I got to travel a lot. The best trip was to New Zealand where we support the National Science Foundation in Antarctica. We made 10 trips down to the ice and I got to chase a peguin once... good times. :D

Where else can you have a moose, standing outside your window.

One day, we will have to share the who, when's, where's, etc. Maybe I knew your dad.

:D I can't believe the odds of this happening; on a Indian Jones forum, of all places!!! I came in EOD originally and made it through the first week at Medina Annex-Lackland before I realized I would probably lose some body part that I'd like to keep, then re-classed into Electric. I arrived at Sheppard Sept 10, '01. Imagine the chaos of reaching a new base just all h*** breaks lose!!!

That said, we should probably go back to talking about hats before the mods have to slap ours wrists!

Whereas it's great to see a newbie and some of you have a lot in common, please keep in mind the topic of this thread. It's starting to turn into a bit of a chatroom, which is not what it's intended to be. By all means, I encourage you to chat offline (and hope that you do!) but let's get this back on topic, okay?

EDIT: And as I type this, I see airforceindy is already thinking the same thing.

.... so someone go a new hat right?

As I mentioned before, I've spoken/emailed with Fedora, and will be ordering my new AB around the 15th of Sept. I really like the look of the IndyIV hat in the pics found on the official website: tall and straight-sided, but not quite as hard of a pinch as seen in ROTLA. As for the much-talked-about "turn", I think it will look just fine and still do the film justice with a symmetrical look. Got the final approval from the wife to spend the money, now just have to wait on the money!

It's all good, guys. Besides, you're talking to someone who used to be one of the kings of off topic posting. When they made me a moderator, they threatened to make me clean up my own posts!  Anyhow, I remember one of my first fedoras. It was my grandfather's and it was absolutely HUGE on my five year old noggin. I loved that hat so much I wore it everywhere. Sadly, it's long gone, but I have great memories of that hat. It would've made a pretty good Indy, too.

Gentlemen, it's been a pleasure and a privilege (particularly being the "newbie" as Bink so eloquently put it  ), but I must be signing now so the gov't can get some work out of me!!!

Adios until next time...

Well, I just got an email from Indy Magnoli that he is on vacation until the 15th of September, so I guess it will take a few more weeks to get my Magnoli/HJ :(
At least I can expect my Wested pretty soon.

Really? I ordered mine on April 6th. When I get it I'll post pictures for everybody.

REMEMBER, Steve is doing these as fast as he can and has more orders than you can imagine for his own line of hats and is trying to help all of us that wanted a HJ to boot. So while I'm not the most patient in the world, I have to go with Bink on this...
binkmeisterRick wrote: He's a one-man shop and refuses to rush his hats. Michaelson is right, he's not in it for the money, so if he has a few less hats to make, he'll probably enjoy the break. If so many people didn't want his product, the wait would be shorter, but his product speaks for itself, which is why many of us are willing to wait. So sit back and sip some iced tea, guys. Relax in the rocking chair and enjoy the company of friends on this creaky old porch. They'll come when they're good and ready.
At least tea is good and the company.

Johnny

p.s. Steve, thanks again man for offering these with Indy. Now I just need to get the funding for an AB passed through appropriations! (Unlikely  )-J

p.p.s. Why is it that like Groucho, I can never end a letter or a post for that matter; without always at least one postscript?

Well, you got me beat waiting for this hat. I'm not really complaining. I understand why it's taking so long, and I happen to be a size that wasn't in stock at the time. I can deal with it as long as I know I haven't been forgotten, and Magnoli has assured me that I have not been. But the wait is... so... painful!!!!

Of course, I now have a new Banjo _ coming, so that should numb things for a while.

OK that's got to be the most bizarre and ridiculous catch by a forum censor I've ever seen. I thought it was bad that the censor filtered out "s.u.c.k.s.", but filtering out "a.s.s.u.r.e.d." is just plain daft.

I know trying to get around the naughty word filter is very uncool, so sorry guys, but, I mean, come on! :rolling:

Anyway, sorry for the interruption. Carry on.
This is actually getting bad...the word of mine that was censored two posts up was p.a.s.s.e.d. Really?
