I am stuck on my 2nd whip trying to drop to 12 plait from 14...I attached a picture to show what I am working with.
There are tons of videos of dropping from 16 to 14 and 12 to 4..lol but 14 to 12 is missing and It's kicking my butt.
If I drop from under 4 over 3 into under 3 over 3 in the front you get a double overlap like this
If I take the top strand around the back and behind all the laces on the left and plait on the bottom shifts to the side.
My first concern is are you really ready to drop? If you drop too soon you will get into trouble. Dropping strands is done when the core has become too small for the number of strands you are presently using, not before. Was the plaiting becoming crowded before you dropped or was it normal?
My second concern is the length leftover on that strand to be dropped. Don't cut them too short. You should leave yourself plenty of room to plait over the dropped strand before you cut it so it never becomes loose with use....
As for going from 14 to 12, and assuming you are dropping two strands at once, if you have already dropped from 16 to 14 then you already know how to do it, the only difference is instead of crossing the strands over each-other in the from, you cross them over each-other in the back. So take you two strands to be dropped and cross them over each-other in the back and lay the strands over the length of the whip and simply plait on normally in an under 3/over 3.
cheers,
