From falls & poppers to plaiting & cracking technique, this section is dedicated in memory of Sergei, IndyGear Staff Member and Whip Guru. Always remember to keep "Celebratin' Life!"
My interest in whips started from seeing the first 3 Indiana Jones movies and Michelle Pfeiffer's scenes as Catwoman in Batman Returns. I was around 10 years old at the time.
These movies inspired me to make my first whip. I found a nice piece of blue synthetic rope under my parents house and a tree branch to tie it on. After doing so it wouldn't crack because the rope was too light so I tied a few knots on it which helped. After some use the rope frayed at the end and it cracked even better.
On my 11th or 12th birthday my parents bought me the best whip they could afford at the time. We got it from a saddlery shop in Auckland city, it was one of those mass produced mexican swivel handle whips made from cow hide. I managed to destroy the whip in a month from swinging on tree branches with it thinking that's what whips were made for. After a replacement from the shop that believed it was destroyed from cracking it I gave it another chance. The second whip lasted much longer but died from over use on concrete. I gave up on whips after this until the age of 28.
My interest came back due to Indiana Jones 4. Cool thing was I had enough money to buy a good quality whip and looked after my things better. After a bit of research I found Peter Jack's website. I got him to make me a 10' x 16 plait target bullwhip. It was amazing! I still remember the day it arrived! After a week or so I ordered a 6' and 8' from him so that I could have the 3 standard lengths. I kept buying whips from various makers after my first 3 and started building a collection.
A few months later I ended up seeing Peter Jack in the South Island of New Zealand to do a whip making workshop for 3 days. I went back to Auckland and started making whips by myself. I now have the best workshop ever and continue to make random bullwhip projects that I sell. I don't take custom orders because I don't want to compromise my creativity. I will eventually make a few whips that will become the standard models available on top of the random ones I offer.
Thank you very much for your response to my post. I will continue to show my whips here so keep an eye out. p.s They are both for sale if you may be interested.
If they are for sale, please use the classified section once you've posted here long enough to see and participate in their use. Otherwise, let's not be posting ads for items for sale in the open forum sections.

Thanks Michaelson, just trying to get my head around this forum. I intend on using it properly.
Santamariawhips, you wouldn't happen to be the man who goes by waitakere whips on youtube, would you?
Maybe I'm mistaken, but I know that his last name is Santamaria and he makes a fantastic whip too( the whip you posted looks fantastic!). I had the pleasure of cracking one of his roo whips last year. Your style looks very similar and I know he learned from Peter Jack as well.

Just look me up under santamaria whips. By the way I changed it from Waitakere Whips because I didn't like it how the name rhymed and wanted my last name to represent the whips instead of my district.

Hi Michealson,
Sorry for posting in the vendor section of this forum without official vendor status. I just went straight there after you told me not to post sales on the other section. How long do I have to be a memeber before I can post in the vendor section?

You will have to wait until you see a section entitled "Cairo Bazaar."
