Indy Mo has sent these pics to me of his new Berkshire Chase glasses.

Indy Mo can tell us more about them.

Personally, they look identical to the BOIC. Good find.

I wish they'd call them a different name ! Every time I see you post the title ' Berkshire' in a subject title, and knowing our 'other' interest, I keep expecting to see a Nickel Plate 2-8-4 picture posted here.

I've been chatting with Indy Mo on Instant Messenger. He lives about 20 minutes away from my home town. From the sounds of it he has quite the collection. I like the glasses a lot. Maybe one day I'll go down and take a look for myself. Thanks for posting the pictures Pyro!

I'll do you one better - Here is the link from the Frames Direct page. Obviously, you will want cables and the color is Chestnut! It's important that you are sized properly and I had the prescription filled by my own Optician. Best of luck!

I recently bought a pair. I got them in the Blonde rather than the Chestnut color (looks better with my complexion, I think). I'm very satisfied with them.

I hear ya! Too funny! Totally off topic, but the new editor of O Gauge Magazine (a Lionel train and 2 rail O Gauge Magazine) is Rich Melvin, the engineer of the restored Nickel Plate Berk 2-8-4....

Back on topic, I wanted a spare pair of glasses so my BOIC's won't get the wear and tear of daily wear specs, and these fit the bill perfectly! Thanks all! They'll be getting my order shortly.....

EDIT: I double checked the pictures with my BOIC's - they're in my briefcase today here at work, and as far as I can see, they're identical!

Oh, and when I saw the model name (Panto 14KT) I immediately read "Pankot". Sheesh...

The price on the Berkshires are actually more than the BOIC's for what ever reason. You may have to make the BOIC's the spare.

My thought would be to get chestnut. It seems more screen accurate. I got blond gold in a similar model and it's too light.

You need your perscription and pupil distance (PD)

You need to know what glasses size is best for you. This style of frames are slightly different than most conventional frames. The actual frame needs to be slightly wider than your head. This is so the ear pieces don't rub on the side of your forehead or temple. At least that's how it was explained to me when I visited FramesDirect in Houston.

I am pleased to see they offer a size 53. 51's have been the largest I have seen and a 53 may look better on me.

Well, my Bershire Chases' arrived last night, I knew they were very close just looking at the pictures above, but now putting them side by side with the BOICs......

They are completely the same in every detail I can see. The ONLY difference is the little BOIC indended in the right arm. Even the "14 KT RG" is the same on both nose pieces. I think it's safe to say they are a dead ringer.

That is good news, MJ. I have 2 pairs of the BOIC's myself. But, but... It's a shame the Berkshire's are more expensive. However, I will look at this glass being half full and at least we have a vendor.

Also, from what I hear, BOIC is working on getting another supplier for their P3's. So let's not totally give up on BOIC. You know it is extremely important for me to have a "screen accurate" BOIC stamp on the inside right arm.

As BOIC had gone (temporarily?) belly-up on the "real" frames, I ordered Berkshires, and have now been extremely happily using them for several months now. They're really wonderful. When I brought the frames in to my doc to get the lenses, the assistant remarked, "Wow. What a really nice retro look." Some folks might have reacted interestingly to that statement. I, like any Gearhead, felt complimented and flattered....

The assistant added, "Well-made, too. What made you go with a larger lens-size frame when the "fashionable" trend is toward much smaller lenses?" I just told her that preferred the older look.

As my previous glasses were somewhat different in overall design, as well as smaller in the lenses, it took me a little while to get used to the look of the frames on my face (not quite

, but it felt that way at first. They, like almost any frame, aren't for everyone...), but I continue to get compliments for them, so I'm sold and satisfied.
