Thanks, guys. I didn't mean to start any arguments. Personally, I think you should all buy THREE bags: One unweathered, one "light", and one "regular".
Hey, maybe I'll start offering a "dark" or "heavy" version, too.
Thanks for the kind words, SJ. And I love the display setup. RE: that screen cap of the real bag in action: That'd be great to printout and frame behind it.
I, for one, am glad that "Fedora" isn't Abner. I have come to think of Abner as a kind man who has a love and respect for history, especially since he was a major mentor for Indy and passed that love and sense of respect down to him. "Fedora" showed that he was only after the mon...
I've been asked about how I weather my sandbags, Mark VII (and VI) bags, and other cloth props/costume pieces, so here goes. I use the following things in the following order of application, but I often mix things up and try new techniques. HINT: Some weathering is done while the bag is wet, some wh...
Mine were uncomfortable when I first got them, as well. I mean REALLY uncomfortable. I had blisters and the whole nine yards. But after some dedicated, diligent wearing, day in and day out, for about two weeks, they finally broke in and are now extremely comfortable. Use some Pecards and just wear t...
Go to www.indyjacket.com and look at the leather samples. The authentic lamb is there and is clearly lighter than the rest by some way. As the auth goat was/is exactly the same colour as the auth lamb, you should be able to find out for sure one way or the other. Al Where are the leather samples? I...
Well, I'm going to give this thing a shot. I've knitted a lot of stuff, but never a scarf. This'll be my first one. :) Anyhoo, I'd like to get some input about details on the scarf such as: * The buttons: Are they smooth on the surface? I can't really tell. * The ribbing: Any ideas as to the width o...
I can say with complete confidence that you will NOT be disappointed if you get one of Paul's DVDs. I had tried other videos that show you the basic cracks, and never got very far with them. However, I was doing all of the cracks within a couple of weeks of getting Paul's DVD. You learn the basic 4 ...
I've seen plenty of distressed lambskin jackets and the pre-distressed cows, but I don't recall seeing any pics of distressed goatskin jackets and how they turned out.
If you've distressed your goat, please post some pics.
Sweet! Thanks. I just took it back out of the box and double-checked: I can't fit my thumb between the sweatband and my head. So I guess it'll all work out after all. Wow! I got my JCrew boots last night and my Akubra fed today. :) I'm taking care of both ends this weekend. :) Thanks again for the h...
With the inserts, it fits pretty well. If it will snug up when bashed and with wear, then it will be fine. I'll just order the next one as a 59 instead of a 60.
My Akubra Fed Dlx showed up today! WooHoo!! :) However, I put it on my head straight out of the box, and it feels a bit loose. Granted, I'm use to baseball caps, not fedoras. And I know I can use the foam inserts, too. But I'm afraid of bashing my hat and then finding out it's still too large, but n...
Well, I'm still waiting for my Fed Dlx to show up at my door step. But it's been raining quite a bit here in Central Texas, lately, and I don't want to get my hat soaked the first time I wear it. So do you guys recommend Scotchguarding the hat? Or is there some other kind of weatherproofing treatmen...
I would LOVE to get some of that scrap material, please.
Good luck on the shirt tailoring. I'm not sure where I stand on that one. I'd be afraid of having it fit too snuggly and taking away from that "rough and rugged" look.
Here's the pants on their website: http://www.dillards.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=301&storeId=301&productId=500446430&langId=-1&itemCat=924&rootCat=430 I went and looked at them at my local Dillards and they sure seemed dark to me. But then I've never ...
You can see the turkshead knot in his hand, that's evident. You can also see the keeper turkshead at the point where the handle/thong junction is, and that is about the correct length for a regular bullwhip handle: 8" or so from the very butt-end of the whip. HOWEVER, the straightness of the wh...
Well, his hand should be around the turkshead, that's the way you should hold a whip. But the handle is still waaaay long for a regular bullwhip handle. Yet, the keeper turkshead isn't at the end of the handle, it's in the middle of the handle.
Did Indy trade in his bullwhip for a target bullwhip? Look at that handle length. I'm guessing about 12+ inches. I noticed that, too. On a regular target whip, is the keeper knot at the handle/thong junction, or is it slid back more toward the butt of the handle like the one in this pic? Maybe this...
Does anyone know of a way to make these shirts wrinkle? I hate the "just came back from the cleaners" look that man-made fabrics have. I've been trying to figure out a way to give them more of a rugged look, but have had no luck.
I have a fear that is growing more and more by the hour. "What fear", you ask? The fear that we will see Indy sporting a short-brimmed 50's style Fed with a small feather in the ribbon.:( I know we've seen a 1950's Indy sporting the "correct" Indy-style fed in MOTB, but something...
pschtyckque, where are you located? If you can't find a book describing it (the Edwards book that Paul mentioned is excellent!) you might be able to find someone close to you who is willing to show you how to tie it.
Sounds like your breaking your wrist backward when you start the side crack. That's what's changing the line of the whip and having it come up and swat you as it tried to come forward. Even if your whip is lying to your side, if your wrist is broken/bent when you start to pull the whip forward, the ...
Do the Saddle colored pants need to be lightened down a little to be more accurate? I went and looked at them at my local Dillards and they sure seemed dark to me. But then I've never seen a pair of NH pants up close to judge by.
What you might try if you're just going to go over a khaki colored pair (which I'm reading as light tanish???) is darkening them up a bit with some black RIT in the washer. Use about a half pack. And then wash them right after the dye wash cycle. Really? All right, I'll give that a go, then. The pa...
Does anyone have a small swatch they can send me that was left over from when they hemmed up their pants? I want to experiment with redeying some khaki pants to match the NH color.
