I remember meeting Joe over a decade ago when I went to the shop on a trip out to Bowie Texas. He was an exemplary example of those in the trade and carried the torch well for his family business. He will be missed.

Many different nationalities tend to have their own head shapes. Asians often have round oval heads and very squared off feet. I'd have to vote four-in-hand. That knot is too narrow to look like a windsor. Jake, it's not used for a specific block, just to help in steaming in the shape then some particulars in sewing in the sweat so it helps hold that shape. Here is one my friend Jake steamed before he decided to sell it to someone that wanted to turn it into a Freddy Kruger hat. Like with most I've seen in person, they taper on one side more than the other... the steaming of this felt brought that issue to light in spades. They seam to stretch one side...

I took some pretty good frame by frame looks. That's the button sewn to the fabric which is underneath the fly. You can see the two layers above rippling. The button should be in between them... buttoned.

Go through it frame by frame.

Means you have to unbutton one guys.

When I was griping about the front to back taper of the Indy4 hat, Steve Delk mentioned that all the hats in Indy 4 were reblocked by Baron hats. All of them but the gray one used in Indy 4 I think is what he wrote, which explains why the gray hat has the tall untapered crown, and all the brown hats...

Perhaps it was another "Australian model" just in black without a dimensional cut yet still cut down and a bound edge added. To me it always looked like a cut down brim. Cut down from a wider more curved brim... in turn making it look a little flatter than what you'd find on a vintage hat....

Just can't beat that gray hat from Raiders Wider ribbon than the brown hats, and I think the band is a charcoal gray rather than a black. So why wasn't Noodelman chosen for this film? I think a worn in hat would have looked better than a hat out of the box and frosted with fullers, and i think she could have pulled it off. If you look (and not even closely) you can see how the brown hat has a heavy taper front to back in the interrogation scene, you can see it in other scenes like the car chase as well but the interrogation scene gives you a good direct side view.
