Well I certainly hate shorts. I would wear pants rather than shorts just about anywhere. Action heroes and shorts just don't go together anyway. Bruce Willis tried it with Striking Distance and it looked lame. Yes, shorts in the jungle are a terrible idea unless you want to quickly look like a corp...

I have to agree with HF on this one. The desert is one thing -- it can get cold at night and so a jacket isn't a bad idea at all. But as for jungles, unless you're at mid to high elevation, a heavy leather jacket makes about as much sense as shorts in the Arctic.

Thanks for the comparison pics. A lot more practical and still a pretty close match.

Looks fine to me. I generally prefer things to fit a bit on the large size (more freedom of movement), so I wouldn't worry about the sizing unless you're working the runway.

I've got a pair of these coming as well (unfortunately not the discount version, but good on ya for finding that). Look like great boots -- thanks for posting the pics.

I ordered a large about 5 weeks ago, then cancelled because I was concerned it would be too large (consensus is that they tend to run larger than normal sizing). So I'm interested to hear if these do as well.

I'm not in the market for a gray one, but I have to say it looks quite spiffy.

When did AB stop making a rabbit version of the hat? The texture looks good to me -- though obviously hard to tell from just the pic.

So...seems the consensus is that HJ makes the floppiest and the Akubra the runner up. Anyone care to rank the others? How do the Campmaster, Keppler, ABs, etc. compare?

Hard to tell from the pics (btw, Keppler's on the right, yes?) -- does the Keppler have a wider brim than the Fieldmaster?

Does anyone have one of the Peter Bros. "soft rabbit blend" hats -- are those any floppier than your standard lid?

Thanks. Since I'm in the market for a first hat, can the ABs, Camptowns, Peter Bros etc. hats be loosened up to become more floppy, or are they just more stiff and will stay that way? Can you crush them and re-shape them to make them less stiff without destroying the hat? Thanks.

Pardon the naive question: were the "original" hats from ROTLA less stiff than later versions or the ones generally produced now? In other words, how/why is floppy preferable? I'm not challenging the premise, just curious. Thanks.
